*** PROPERTY TAX REAPPRAISAL MORATORIUM ***

PROPERTY TAX BILL MAILING DELAYED FOLLOWING STATE LEGISLATION

A new law that became effective on June 19 has delayed the effective date of Davidson County’s property revaluation from 2026 to 2027. Due to extensive updates and recalculations required by this change, 2026 property tax bills will be mailed later than usual.

Davidson County recently conducted a reappraisal of taxable property values to remain compliant with state requirements. In March 2026, the County sent property owners new values, which were to become effective for the 2026 tax year. Senate Bill 889, titled “Property Tax Reappraisal Moratorium,” became effective on June 19, 2026, long after the reappraisal was completed. The law temporarily prevents most county property tax reappraisals from taking effect in the 2026 tax year. As a result, Davidson County and all other taxing jurisdictions in Davidson County are required to revert to the property values from the previous tax year to calculate property taxes.

This legislation will require extensive updates and reconciliation of property records to recalculate tax bills, and that process is expected to take up to two months to complete. The County’s staff is working diligently to implement the required changes and minimize disruptions to taxpayers.

As a result, tax bills will be delayed. While some property owners may be concerned that they may be unable to take advantage of the early-payment discount offered by the County, the discount will still be available. Any taxpayers who wish to pay their 2026 property taxes prior to September 1, 2026, can do so by mail or in person, even if they have not yet received a tax bill.
